Usually, the selection of rotor materials is based on the type and properties of the materials produced. The common materials used in the rotor of the bead mill are divided into 4 categories, with different uses.
1. Zirconia
Zirconium oxide as rotor material in the zirconium oxide beads mill is mainly used to prevent the metal substance from contaminating the grinding slurry or to grind the slurry with high color requirements.
Industries Applicable: MLCC, 5G ceramics, carbon nanotubes, printing inks, etc.
2. Silicon Carbide
Silicon carbide as rotor material in the bead mill is suitable for relatively hard solid particles in non-corrosive slurry water-based or alcohol-based ;
Industries Applicable: silicon carbon anode, ceramic ink, and so on.
3. Tungsten Carbide
Tungsten carbide as rotor material in the bead mill is featured in high hardness, high wear resistance, and high-temperature resistance, which can withstand strong impact and wear;
Industries Applicable: paint, feeding, ink, pesticides, etc.
4. Polyurethane Polymer(PU)
Polyurethane polymer(PU) as rotor material in the bead mill is composed of chemical compounds with relatively high molecular weight, recommended in water-based slurry under a grinding temperature below 60℃.
Industries Applicable: lithium iron phosphate, aluminum oxide, etc.
Zirconium oxide is a mature ceramic accessory material widely used in bead mills. Among the four major diamond materials with relatively mature processes: zirconium oxide, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and silicon nitride, zirconium oxide has high toughness. The rotor contacts the grinding material during grinding under high-speed rotation, the grinding elements easily get cracked, or even broken especially after overtime usage. And the toughness of zirconium oxide can stand it. Thus, in high-speed rotating bead mills, the advantage of the rotor made of zirconium oxide is more obvious.
The rotor will always leave the impurities from grinding no matter what material is made of. However, thanks to their high wear resistance, ceramic elements or parts cause less substance than traditional steel and polyurethane. At the same time, the substance from the rotor is zirconium oxide which is consistent with the zirconium oxide beads, thereby the impact on the quality of the final product is little. Therefore, the rotor made of zirconium oxide is more suitable for grinding in industries like pharmaceuticals and food.
